Hampden Hill Team

John Cronly


John grew up in Richmond and attended Hampden-Sydney College. During his summer breaks, he worked in the construction industry learning the trades from the ground up. Upon graduating in 2006, John spent many months exploring career opportunities and met with professionals in the fields of real estate and investments. It wasn't long before he realized that he was not meant to sit behind a desk as he enjoyed working more with his hands and being outside and on a job site. He started his career as a carpenter’s helper with the first contractor and worked his way into a Carpenter position. He was a Project Coordinator with the second contractor he worked for. Through learning the trade, he became passionate about building and construction. He launched Hampden Hill Custom Building (HHCB) in June of 2009. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Jo, their three children, and their dog, Lucy. John is an active member of HBAR and NARI and continues to be engaged in Richmond outreach.

William Cronly

Project Manager

William was born and raised in Richmond and attended Hampden-Sydney College, graduating with an Applied Mathematics degree in 2012. He began working at Hampden Hill Custom Building as a carpenter’s apprentice. Through hard work and dedication, William is now the Project Manager overseeing the day to day details on each custom project. He enjoys the outdoors, carpentry, and spending time with his family at the river.

Kelly Short

Design Manager

Kelly Webb was born and raised in Richmond. She graduated from High Point University in 2006 with a Home Furnishings Marketing degree. She worked as a Design Consultant for Mosaic Tile for 12 years, designing for interior designers, architects, builders, contractors, and homeowners alike. She then became the Selections Coordinator for a local custom builder where she worked for 2 years assisting homeowners with both interior and exterior selections during their home building process. As the Design Manager at Hampden Hill, Kelly's expertise and creativity are valuable as she personally assists homeowners with their numerous selections, from start to finish. In addition, she manages the ordering of materials and ensures that the selections and installation are clearly communicated to the contractors on the job. Kelly married Michael Short, who also works in the industry, in October 2019 in Floyd, VA. When she married Mike, she also gained a beautiful daughter. Together, they enjoy going on hikes with their 2 Lab puppies, Sadie and Porter.

Susan Kane

Business Manager

Susan grew up in Fairfax County and attended Hollins College where she majored in Economics and Spanish. She began her 16 year career in Finance with the International Monetary Fund in D.C. where she worked abroad in Austria and Dubai. In 2008, she resigned from the IMF so that she could stay at home to raise her three children. A few years later, Susan and her husband Vic (VMI '93) decided to leave the rat race behind and moved to Richmond for a slower pace and better quality of life. They made their home in the far west end where they are involved in their community and their children's schools and sports teams. They enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors with their yellow Lab. After 2 years of working at the Capital One West Creek campus, Susan assumed the position of Business Manager at Hampden Hill. She has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the HHCB team and is excited about the progress of the design center and the continued growth of the company.

Suzanne Sprouse

Office Administrator

Suzanne grew up in Hendersonville, NC and attended North Carolina State University, graduating with a major in Business Management. She began working for McKinney & Silver Advertising Agency in Raleigh, NC before making the move to Richmond, VA. Suzanne and her husband, Thomas, have three sons that keep them both very busy. After taking time off from the working world to raise their children, Suzanne was eager and excited to join the Hampden Hill team to assist in the navigation of the ever-changing world of custom home building and renovations. As the Office Administrator at Hampden Hill, she aids in the process of Accounts Payable and Receivable and manages their in-house construction management software, BuilderTrend. She enjoys spending her free time cheering her kids on for various sports teams and relaxing at home with her husband and dog, Reuben.
